Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of School-Based Management (SBM) in improving the quality of educational services at Junior High Schools (SMP). Using a qualitative approach and a case study design, this research gathers data through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis at several SMPs in Indonesia. The results indicate that the consistent implementation of SBM improves education quality, especially through school autonomy in resource management, active community participation, and better accountability. The school principal plays a central role as the main driver in implementing relevant strategic policies. However, the study also identifies challenges such as teachers' lack of understanding of SBM principles and resistance to change. Additionally, support from local government in the form of management training and budget allocation has proven to be a key success factor. This study emphasizes the importance of synergy between school autonomy, accountability, and community collaboration to ensure the effective implementation of SBM.
